The Emotional Roller Coaster of Football Season

If you're a football mom, you already know football season isn't just a season on the calendar. It's a season of life. It's early mornings, late nights, endless laundry, packed schedules, Friday night lights, and a calendar that somehow belongs more to football than it does to you. And somewhere between the first practice and the final whistle, you realize something: You're on the emotional roller coaster, too.

So, Football Mom, Soak It In

Take the pictures. Cheer too loudly. Pack the snacks. Wear the team sweatshirt. Celebrate the wins. Survive the losses. And every once in a while, put the phone down and just watch. Because football season is temporary. The memories aren't. And someday, you may find yourself wishing you could go back to one of those exhausting, exciting, emotional Friday nights. Even the ones that didn't go your way.

Because that's the funny thing about the football mom roller coaster—we wouldn't trade the ride for anything.

The Excitement

There is nothing quite like the beginning of football season. The new gear. The first practice. The first time you see your son in his uniform. The anticipation of that first game. You're excited, proud and ready for what's ahead.

Then reality hits. Camp is hot. Practices are long. Everyone is tired. And somehow, there is always another load of football laundry waiting.

But watching your athlete work hard, push through the tough days and become more confident makes it all worth it.

The Stress

Then come the things every football mom worries about. Will he make the team? Will he get playing time? Will he stay healthy? Will he have a good season?

As moms, we want to fix everything. But football teaches us—and our kids—that sometimes we have to step back. We can encourage them, listen to them and remind them that one game, one mistake or one coach's decision doesn't define who they are.

Then comes Friday night. And everything changes.

The Friday Night High

The lights come on. The stadium fills up. The music starts. And when your son runs onto the field, your heart swells with pride. You know how much work went into getting him there.

You celebrate the big plays, the little plays and even the things nobody else noticed. Because you're his mom. You notice everything. And when the team wins? It's the best feeling in the world.

Until next week.

The Losses

Because football doesn't always go your way. There are tough losses. Bad games. Missed opportunities. Injuries. Disappointment. And sometimes your son is hurting emotionally after a game. Your instinct is to make it better. But you can't change the scoreboard or erase the disappointment. Sometimes all you can do is listen, give him a hug and say:

"I'm proud of you."

And sometimes, that's exactly what he needs.

The Part Nobody Warns You About

The hardest part of football season might be realizing how quickly it goes.

We're so busy thinking about the next practice, the next game, the next meal and the next road trip that we forget these moments are temporary. Eventually, there will be a final game. A final time wearing that uniform. A final Friday night under the lights. And that's when you realize the things you'll remember most probably won't be the final scores. You'll remember the friendships. The team meals. The bus rides. The crazy weather. The celebrations. The disappointments.

And most of all, you'll remember watching your child grow.
